Although it may seem counterintuitive, companies expect you to negotiate your salary with potential employers.

Many hiring managers will offer you a lower salary than their budget because they anticipate that you will counter it with a higher amount, according to Tori Dunlap (founder of the financial education company Her first 100K).

Dunlap stated that this is precisely why you should be ready to demand more money before signing any contracts.
